Gavin Dayne “Gabby” Carper passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the young age of 20.
Gavin was born May 1, 2003 in Abilene to Arron Carper and Lacey Rains. He attended Baird High School and graduated from Gorman High School in 2022. He played football at both schools, and all the underclassmen looked up to him. He married Emily Hall January 6, 2024, and the couple resided in Brownfield, where he attended diesel mechanic school at Warren Cat.
Gavin knew no strangers, loved with all his heart and was a fierce protector. He loved spending time with friends, turning a wrench, fixing his motorcycle, working on trucks, welding and playing video games. He was very outgoing and loved adventure. He was an avid sportsman. He would do anything for his friends and would drop anything he was doing to help them. He had a vast love for music, listening to everything from country to rap to rock. He had a great sense of humor the size of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Nell “Nana” Carper and Willie “Pawpaw” Carper; great-grandparents Francis and Odell Rains; great grandfather Johnnie Manning and cousins Stephanie Bryan and Abby Silva.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Carper; father Arron Carper and mother Lacey Rains; grandmother Beverly Rains; grandfather Billy Rains and wife Kim; great-grandmother Louise Manning (Moma Lou); and brothers Tyler Carper and Bentley Callahan; uncles BJ Rains (April), Bill Carper (Winnie) and Bryant Manning (Sheila); cousins Tifnie Hollander, Braxton Rains, Amanda Taylor (Mike), Blake Manning (Stacey), Cole, Clay and Cylea Carper. He is also survived by more friends than could be counted. The love he had for them is like the love Jesus had for all.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 PM Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Brushy Creek Cowboy Church, 12712 I-20 East in Putnam.
The family suggests memorials to a local mental health, child abuse or suicide awareness agency.
